One of my favorite aspects about building a business and connecting in a web 2.0 world is the ability to get links while doing so. There are so many niche social networks and web platforms that allow you to take advantage of this. I don’t like listing sites to the public that often mainly because the abuse that follows in the link building world. So my intentions here are to showcase how Screept is a great place to connect with fellow site owners and programmers. I couldn’t honestly tell you what my profession title actually is…webmaster, link builder, ecommerce manager….ugh.

I’ve just started playing around on Screept and one of the lead developers is very active on there and provided me with a nice and warm welcome. You can never really have enough programmer friends when you’re in the online marketing game, and connecting with on the ball developers is just a bonus. If you do fall under the category of a legit user and do sign up to Screept, make sure you find me on there and add me as a friend.

Link Building With FriendSite.com

January 27  |  Link Building, Social Networks  |   Ryan Clark

I’ve just discovered FriendSite.com this morning while link building for a client. I’m still kind of groggy but I managed to not let it slip under my radar. To start off it looks like this social network was launched in October of 2007 and has seen some decent growth despite the growing number of social networks popping up all over the place. They hit 100,000 members last April and the growth wasn’t explosive until late this year, and it has been building up quite a storm every since. Here is a look at the Alexa graph since its launch;

The site is packed with features that you would find on most social networks with a few different twists. First of all their spam protection is heavily tweaked and does a decent job at keeping the place clean of junk. Secondly, the site has a large user base of people above 20 years old which helps keep it somewhat mature. User profiles are well put together and don’t resemble anything close to the ugly themes of Myspace.

As for link building, it is possible to use their bookmark system which is dofollow and if you take part properly, will get indexed when your user profile is indexed. Since the site has a lot of user activity it is in your best interest to take part and connect with people who have the same interests because you’ll quickly get knocked off for spam.

Link Building With Gooruze.com

I recently discovered Gooruze.com which is an online social media profile that allows you to create a content rich bio for the world to see. Gooruze is do follow and allows you to add links in your bio, blog entries, articles and import your blog’s RSS feed right into the page. I really like the ease of the site and it’s a great way to network for business and friends online within the same niche. The software used to run the site feels like a mix of Linkedin and Squidoo which I really like! I’m going to be filling out my Gooruze profile today, so check it out to see what kind of options there are but beware my page isn’t quite fully loaded yet. I did notice a weird issue when filling out the bio…when you add links it formats it on a new line and I’m not sure why, so let me know if you get this issue as well.

Gooruze is here to help. A ranked advice community for online marketing professionals. The Gooruze difference is dedicated, ranked, quality information. The content is created by members who share real online marketing experiences and insights in the form of articles, answers and news. The content is tagged, rated and commented on by the community to deliver a constantly evolving online marketing knowledge base.

Gooruze is a great place to promote and create unique and quality content, so this is not a place for you to go and spam all the live long day. Please respect the website and although you can build quality links, make sure you’re contributing to the commuity at large. If you happen to produce some quality articles on there you can make the front page in many ways, just take a look at the picture in detail or visit the site. If you’re ready to join in on the fun over at Gooruze you can register here.

Link Building With Gabbr.com

I’ve been playing around with Gabbr.com lately and finally got around to posting about the site. Gabbr is a web 2.0 news, social bookmarking and networking tool that makes all these features great for finding like minded content and users. If you have good content you’ll really enjoy using this service because it encourages you to share you blog content in many ways. First up it lets you input your RSS feed which provides dofollow links, second you can submit individual blog posts or articles which are also dofollow and listed on your public profile. Gabbr has 16,000+ user pages indexed in Google so it looks like this service is picking up nicely! These features allow you to also get related news and eventually network socially to find like minded people in your niche. Another feature that takes Gabbr ahead of the rest is “attention based tracking” which monitors popular content throughout its network. I’ve quickly setup a page although the RSS feed option was giving me PHP errors at the present time, but take a look at my profile to see what I’m talking about. If you’re ready to participate head on over to the join page.

Website Promotion
Instead of having multiple blogs across multiple sites, Gabbr allows bloggers from all types of blogs to submit their blog entries for discussion in a centralized location. The blog entries are also mirrored on the original blog authors website. This cross promotion leads to an increase in the readership of all participating weblogs. The aim is to break down traditional online media barriers while creating constructive online communities. If your blogsite has its own RSS or Atom feed you can submit it to Gabbr so that others can read it thereby increasing the distribution of your site’s content.

Link Building With Flowgram.com

October 22  |  Link Building, Social Media Sites  |   Ryan Clark

Flowgram.com is a revolutionary social media platform that allows you to combine media from many sites into one neat “Flowgram”. This allows you to create a mini presention on a subject and include all the information you need from many sites such as Youtube, Flickr and even Power Point docs! Google has really been showing some love for this site and you can get a do follow backlink to your webpage within your user profile. But with a site like this, you have to think beyond just getting that link and create some very cool and unique content pieces to promote your product, web page or just about anything you like.

Using the zero download Flowgram Maker, creators can assemble and annotate web pages, photographs, documents and more on any topic, and add a voice narrative that provides context, emotion and consistency. This uniquely personalized package can be shared as an embedable widget, email or as a link to either a private group or with the world. Flowgram recipients can interact with any of its pages by clicking on links, for example, or playing and pausing videos.

What I’m loving about all these new social media platforms is how it makes you create good content and leaves behind mindless spamming that I HATE. Once you start using Flowgram you’ll start to realize the endless potential with it for fun, but in most of our cases, marketing.

Link Building With YouBundle.com

I was browsing around the web tonight and I came across YouBundle which left me asking myself how did I ever miss it? I’ve even been planning to launch a service just like it which kind of discouraged me, but I’m still going to blog about this amazing site anyway. YouBundle is somewhat like Squidoo except it’s put together completely different, is much more social and provides a fresh look at social media.

A bundle is a collection of your expertise on any given subject. A bundle should NOT BE a completely exhaustive list of links to cover every possible point of the subject. It should rather be a finely tuned and specialized list of links to relevant information on the subject. The idea is NOT to replicate the 1st page of Google or a link farm. We want every single link in the bundle to be tested, relevant and offering quality information. Just because a link comes from an authority site such as Wikipedia, does not mean that you have to include the link – we want flavor and variety – not sterility.

YouBundle is of course Do Follow and not only can you add bookmarks, but you can tie in your social media on the same subject from other sites to completely dominate the subject. You can also get a do follow link on your user page which makes it all the more sweeter. I love what they offer because it forces you to promote and build quality content on the subject and I wouldn’t doubt we’ll be seeing them rise to the top.

Elgg is one of the most popular open source social networking platforms, and for good reason. Elgg has seen a lot of development and the most recent 1.0 version is nothing to snicker at! I’ve been using it for a project and I really like what they have done with the platform in regards to features, and what I think is most important, speed due to the efficiency of code. Now I’m aware blackhats are actively exploiting the Elgg platform mainly due to one reason, everything is pretty much do follow. I’ll be straight forward and mention, as I always do, that I do not condone spamming but adding relevant comments or content to the social platform. If you do a Google search for powered by Elgg you will find well over 50,000 sites that are powered by the social networking sofware.
