ShopKick Location Based Shopping App

I’ve been soaking in all the location based and real time marketing lately, for obvious reasons of course. On my digital travels I came across ShopKick while writing for an upcoming publication. I was talking with Scott Loader yesterday about his Foursquare rampage while shopping here in Vancouver. While Foursquare is no geared directly towards just stores, it still does an ok job of providing deals and fun through its games. I however really like the idea of a location based deals application just for shopping, and this is exactly what ShopKick is all about.

The amount of different deals and coupons that could be offered by this app makes it most intriguing to me, and my clients. While ShopKick is still in its infancy(private beta), you can get that stores are hungry to have this new revolution help bring back some lost business during these tough times. The app itself is set to bring up a stores real world “bounce rate” with features such as KickBucks. This form of currency can be collected by just walking into stores, and further more by scanning products in store with your phone! Once you’ve collected enough, well you guessed it, rewards can be had in real life with prizes such as iPads, phones and more! Check out the video to see a little bit of it in action.

Remember the Milk.. and a Whole Bunch of Other Stuff

I just wanted to quickly give as much praise and props to the folks who’ve created Remember The Milk. I have come to realize how handy this web and mobile app is to keep my personal, and professional life in check. Sadly our human brains don’t utilize its full potential, so who couldn’t benefit from this? There is a free version of RTM, as well as a $25 USD/Year price for the pro account. You can also get the iPhone app, it’s on Android as well as a Blackberry app to keep track of things on the go, although it also comes at a price, it isn’t very much. Sadly, our new staff member Simon is left out of the fun since his Palm Pre isn’t quite cool enough to play along.

Link Building With Eioba.com

I was checking out new content sites and came across this wonderful web 2.0 knowledge sharing website called Eioba.com. This easy to use and navigate site has a blend of articles sites, social networking and social voting on the content. The social voting built into the site sets them apart from a lot of other article sites, and I don’t think I can even get away with calling them an article site. This is a site you won’t be able to get crappy content onto, so make sure you’re there to write some quality and unique content.

Eioba is great for promoting top notch content because they allow you to get a dofollow link within your article, and if it gets pushed to the front page you’ll push more weight to that link. If you start to become an expert, you can promote your own blog a lot more and gain fans and friends on the site. I highly recommend signing up and giving it a try by writing a few articles and voting.

Link Building With Stumpedia.com

Stumpedia was launched just over a year ago and its grown to be one of the most active social search engines on the market. I’ve been a fan and using it for a while now, especially since they’ve gone dofollow. The site as of today is showing stats of 13,452 links, 3,976 members and over 35,000 search terms in the database. If you haven’t added your site to Stumpedia I highly suggest you go and register for an account, then search for your keyword. Once you’re there you can add your listing to that search term and it will eventually show up in your backlink profile….assuming it doesn’t get de-listed. Remember to only submit quality sites because you won’t last long spamming this search engine with junk.

The site has been growing strong in the last few months and hopefully will continue on in this fashion. Like I mentioned before the links are dofollow so they will eventually show up in your backlink profile. You can also vote on your listings which will help with placement within the serps. I like what they have done with this platform and I wouldn’t doubt if Google has been snaking ideas from them for the future of their search engine. It’s going to be a tough battle combating serp spam, but eventually we’ll have a cleaner search experience.

Trade Vibes is a semi new site for all things startups and from what I’ve seen to compared sites is that it takes the cake. There are a lot of great startup sites out there but Trade Vibes has won my heart over with their features and best of all, the company profiles which are content rich. The site saw some good growth in 2008 and with the help of their users, they managed to compile over 10,000 company profiles. This is pretty damn impressive especially when you check out the profiles.

Now Trade Vibes is a great resource to build one way do follow links for your startup, and I mean for your startup only. Please do not try and spam this resource, and only use it for what the site is intended for. Your profile will growth with Google and in time it will be a valuable link, so make sure to fill your profile with as much relevant information to your startup as possible. Within your profile it also lists important people within the company and provides a user profile which also is a great place to get a link to your startup. Besides getting links this site is great for attracting investors and connecting with like minded people in your industry.

January 7  |  Social Bookmarking, Social Media Sites  |   Ryan Clark

Mar.com is a pretty new social news sites for the marketing community both online and off. By the looks of its Alexa Ranking, Mar.com has been pushed since the end of December and has been climbing at a decent rate since its launch. I submitted my article Link Building & Social Media Marketing For Women which made it to the front page within a day or so. The traffic as expected wasn’t quite productive just yet, but that could also be due to my content so see for yourself;

The site seems to be getting quite active in regards to voting and user comments which is a good sign. The sites layout is really slick, clean and user friendly so it presents the media quite well. As an online markter I like the mix of offline marketing news that is on the site, it gives me a different angle on things and we all should be looking at all aspects of marketing. If you want to you can sign up for free and start submitting and taking part in the community.
